We are Eric and Michail, 2 friends that after hiking many trails realized that every piece of gear was vital to achieving those big challenges. We broke bags, lamps, microspikes, tents and had to replace them as soon as possible to continue the adventure.
Coming back from those adventures we rethought our approach and started valuing reliable items over quantity. Not finding the perfect products on the market, we decided to start our own design.
The first step was to organise our project, allocate a budget, a place to work and define what kind of product we wanted to build. Buying an old sewing machine 2nd hand and cheap fabrics for our first trial. After drawing some sketches, cutting roughly and sewing without much knowledge, our first prototype was standing!
The result was far from the tent we imagined — disappointing quality, flappy fabric and especially bad stability. We decided to do a second attempt by removing the roof and connecting the A-frame directly together. Stability improved, but the living space inside dropped dramatically.
After those results we decided to rethink the whole project from the start. We analysed all possible geometries that can be built with 1 or 2 pole designs, and did extensive research on tent fabrics — there was a lot to learn! From the 17 concepts we studied, we compared them all and continued with the 2 most promising designs: a six-sided and an eight-sided tent.
After several iterations the 6-sided won for its simplicity, weight and cost. From that point we worked with premium fabrics — the ones we believe are the best for this project. We still had significant issues with tension, flapping fabric and symmetry to resolve. Prototype after prototype we learned, improved and kept going until the result met our expectations.
This year we believed we had all the right parameters in hand. After 4 years of thinking, drawing, cutting, sewing and pitching — we are for the first time both happy about the result! The tent is light, weatherproof, easy to pitch and beautiful. We are proud to share it with the world and ready to see it tested on real adventures!
